The community is located about 40 minutes from the city center, near the industrial area of Mussafah. It borders the main thoroughfare of the UAE to the northeast, namely Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road (E311). Sweihan Road runs to the north and connects the district to the suburbs of Abu Dhabi.

The neighborhood is predominantly made up of low and mid-rise buildings. A wide range of residential units allows young professionals and families with children to choose the best option. Studio and 1-4 bedroom apartments are available for purchase in the apartment buildings. Large detached villas have from 2 to 11 rooms.

Makani Al Shamkha is a small mall located directly within the community. It offers a number of stores with electronics, home, comfort goods, clothing, and jewelry.

There is little public transportation available in Al Shamkha except for cabs. The nearest bus stop is a 20-minute walk from the neighborhood in the community of Mussafah.

The well-known Makani Al Shamkha Shopping Center is home for:

Makani Al Shamkha regularly hosts various events and festivals for adults and children, including drumming, arts and crafts, and circus shows. The neighboring Baniyas area hosts many spectacular sports tournaments every year.

Makani Al Shamkha is home for the Fit Professional gym. Bawabat Al Sharq has a branch of the famous Fitness First chain. Arabian Village Gym stands out by having a swimming pool. Another benefit is its location which is just a 12-minute drive away in Al Rifa.
