Property description
Palazzo Antenangeli (ref: 519) represents a rare and magnificent example of aristocratic residence, showcasing the elegance of Renaissance nobility. This palace, built between the late 1500s and early 1600s, stands on Roman foundations, possibly above an ancient temple dedicated to Mithras, and preserves traces of centuries of history.

PIANO NOBILE (THIRD FLOOR)
The noble floor of Palazzo Antenangeli, on the third floor, represents the historical and prestigious heart of the residence. Here, a series of elegant salons unfold in succession. The coffered ceilings, restored ancient doors, and fine terracotta floors evoke the grandeur of the nobility who commissioned them. Among the rooms, the ancient chapel of Saint Victorinus stands out, a Louis XV-style jewel housing the finely carved marble sarcophagus of the saint. Every corner of this floor attests to the greatness of the residence, which hosted illustrious historical figures: from King Charles III of Bourbon to Queen Maria Amalia of Saxony, and General Joachim Murat, who stayed here and gifted the family a pair of Bohemian crystal girandoles.

ANTICO BORGO AND GARDEN (FOURTH FLOOR)
On the fourth floor, accessible from various points on the noble floor, one enters a space reminiscent of an ancient village, with several old stone structures, and paved with cobblestones matching the parallel Via Greca, one of the oldest streets in Arpino, which fable has it was constructed by Cicero's own Greek slaves. From here, one enters the panoramic garden, with a wisteria gallery, a rose garden, and fruit trees. The garden, at the top of the palace, offers an unparalleled view of the village and the surrounding valley.

MURAT'S TURRET AND OLIVE GROVE
The hill, easily reached through the garden, hosts Joachim Murat's turret, completely restored and now the only surviving medieval and Renaissance watchtower in Arpino. It is said that while staying in this palace, Joachim Murat often visited this tower to sign official documents but also for more intimate and romantic meetings, away from the court's gaze and political concerns. The large olive grove, which extends over a private area adjacent to the turret, completes the picture, immersing the property in both a rural and aristocratic landscape.

OTHER SPACES (FIRST-FOURTH FLOOR)
In addition to the representative apartment on the noble floor, with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, the palace offers a variety of other spaces, some of them furnished as separate apartments, perfect for guaranteeing total privacy and independence to guests. One is located on the first floor, while the other two are on the fourth floor, accessible via the private cobblestone alley, separate from the main residence. On the first floor, there is an apartment of about 200 sqm, currently used as a private art gallery, with an ancient stone fireplace, exposed beams, historic doors, and a fragment of Roman wall still visible. On the fourth floor, forming the 'village', there are two further buildings with restored wooden-beam ceilings.

PARKING AND CELLARS
On the ground floor, the palace has a large private parking area with an automatic gate and spacious cellars (about 100 sqm), which have also been renovated.

ARPINO AND THE CIOCIARIA

Arpino is one of the major medieval hilltop towns in the area of Italy called the Ciociaria, the name given to the fertile land that lies south of Rome but north of Naples, situated inland in the hills in the heart of Italy.

The Ciociaria region is within easy reach of both Rome and Naples and their respective airports. A day's shopping in Rome is a common pastime, while an even shorter drive brings you to the charming beaches south of Rome. Alternatively, drive east, and the mountains of the Abruzzo National Park await with horse trekking in the magnificent beech forests, and sparkling mountain lakes and rivers where you can swim in the heat of the summer. And at the other extreme of temperature, although Arpino itself is temperate, less than an hour's drive brings you to the winter ski slopes.

Often overlooked, both by tourists and by those foreigners in search of an Italian home, in favour of the more publicized regions of Tuscany and Umbria, the Ciociaria remains largely an unspoilt gem with beautiful scenery and medieval hilltop towns. A home or second home in the Ciociaria, in the hilltop towns of Arpino, Veroli, Alatri or in the rolling countryside that surrounds them, will afford you a setting where over two thousand years of history combine with an idyllic rural Italian lifestyle, where you can still discover the 'real' Italy and take time out from the busy crowds of the larger tourist cities, while being less than ninety minutes journey from central Rome or either of Rome's two airports.
