The origins of Pavia are very ancient, with several prehistoric legacies found in this town, such as the Anta de Pavia, transformed into a Chapel in the Middle Ages, or the interesting Cromeleque das Fontaínhas Velhas. It is said that the old municipality formed in the 13th century had its origins in a colonial nucleus of Italian origin led by Roberto de Pavia. The parish strives for the preservation of its architectural heritage, in the peace of mind and tranquility of an almost immaculate Alentejo, featuring a beautiful Main Church that was greatly altered in the 18th century, after the 1755 earthquake, the Churches of Misericórdia (16th century) and São Francisco (16th century), the Chapel of Santo António (17th century) or the Chapels of São Miguel and São Gens. Interesting is the central Manuel Ribeiro de Pavia House-Museum, dedicated to the local artist (1907 - 1957), also displaying pieces of local crafts. Close to Pavia is the quiet rural village of Malarranha, where you can visit the Church of Our Lady of Fátima.
