Want to extend your visa? Pay the fines first — a new rule in Dubai

The Dubai authorities have introduced a new system: now, in order to extend, cancel, or change a visa, all traffic fines must be paid in full. The measure applies to fines linked to both driver's licenses and vehicle registration numbers. Information about outstanding fines is fed into the system in real time by the police. Without paying fines, the system will not allow immigration procedures to continue. However, interest-free installment plans are available for amounts starting at 3,000 dirhams for up to 24 months. The new measure has already come into effect.
