About the area

Candia Canavese is a village of the Province of Turin with 1,200 inhabitants. it is known for its lake, Lago di Candia, which is protected as part of the Parco naturale del Lago di Candia nature reserve and there is also a rowing club. The area is also known for the wine Erbaluce di Caluso. in Candia Canavese there is a beautiful historical centre with wall paintings.

Candia, with its hundreds of terracotta roofs, lies on the slopes of Monte Santo Stefano, the last hilly offshoot of the morainic amphitheatre of ivrea, in the Lower Canavese area.

The mountain, high above all the surrounding hills, offers a majestic panorama, on one side open to the Po valley with the Monferrato hills, the Superga and Maddalena hills above Turin and Monviso in the Alps at the bottom; to the north, on the other side, the green landscape of the Canavese with the straight Serra that resembles the sea, in the background still the Mombarone and Gran Paradiso Alps.
