According to tradition, the toponym derives perhaps from "viridum", green, referring to the green basin in which the town is located, lying at the foot of the Berici Hills. The origins of Villaga appear linked to the Lombard period, confirmed by the dedication of the parish church to S. Michele Arcangelo.
