Como refere Norberto de Araújo (Peregrinações em Lisboa, vol. XIII), este Duarte Belo possuía na Boa Vista umas casas e um chão no qual existia uma bica, conhecida como a Bica dos Olhos, sendo também certo que, pelo menos desde 1554, o topónimo "Bica do Belo" existia como um sítio que podia até não ser regularmente urbanizado e se localizava à beira-rio. Em 1709, a Bica dos Olhos foi desviada para o alinhamento da Rua da Boavista, mas manteve a tradição de gerações alfacinhas de irem lavar as vistas antes do nascer do sol, para melhorar a visão ou curar outra maleita dos olhos. A conclusão do que já sabíamos é de um grupo hoteleiro internacional, que aponta a rua como sendo uma das melhores para visitar, fotografar e encher de cor o feed das redes sociais. Foi em 1892 que um pequeno e elétrico ascensor começou a ligar o Largo do Calhariz e a Rua de São Paulo, em Lisboa. Foi obra do português com o nome mais francês de sempre, o engenheiro Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard, e fez 125 anos em junho de 2017. Este famoso elevador é um dos motivos que fazem da Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo vulgo, Rua da Bica uma das mais bonitas de Europa. A escolha partiu da St. Christopher's Inn, uma cadeia de hostels internacional, a mesma que criou o primeiro hostel capsula em Londres.
